ASU is setting multiple enrollment records this fall

With the start of the academic year underway, ASU has already set multiple enrollment records this fall. Nearly 41,000 new undergraduate and graduate students have enrolled this fall semester, with more than 181,000 enrolled overall. ASU has also been serving a record number of Arizona residents. Nearly 45% of the 181,000 that are enrolled are Arizona residents. About 9,000 first-year students at the university are Arizona residents, which Dr. Crow described as essential.

“This is our primary reason for existence, to serve the people of Arizona,” Dr. Crow said. “We do that by creating a university setting that has students from all 50 states and more than 160 countries… but the principal beneficiaries of everything that we’re doing are the people of Arizona and the students from Arizona.”

Dr. Crow said they are trying to accelerate the number of Arizonans at ASU because the state has a low college-going rate.

Dr. Crow explained that 2024 marks 10 years since ASU formalized its vision statement into its official chapter. This vision continues to drive everything that ASU does.

The vision included a commitment to make ASU accessible for all, serving their communities and focusing on research and discovery. As a result of their commitment to change, ASU has been ranked #1 in innovation for nine consecutive years.

“We have a fantastic faculty, and then what we do is we maintain accessibility by having what we think of as the actual qualifications to get into a university as opposed to always raising the qualifications so you can measure your success by how many people you leave out,” Dr. Crow said.

ASU is celebrating many anniversaries this fall including the 60th year of Gammage, their performing arts center, and the 20th year of the Biodesign Institute.
