Advanced screening’s impact on breast cancer detection

More from this show

Dr. Bhavika Patel joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss how effective advanced screening methods can be. Dr. Patel is a Professor of Diagnostic Radiology and Chair of Radiology Research at Mayo Clinic Arizona.

As of September 10, the FDA now requires mammogram facilities to notify patients about their breast density. Dr. Patel specializes in advanced screening methods, particularly CEM, contract emission mammography.

Last month, Dr. Patel published a study stating many female participants were told they had a normal mammogram result, only to be tested again with CEM. The second test became crucial as it unveiled a suspicious lump that hadn’t been seen before.

Dr. Patel answered a variety of questions that many patients may have involving CEM, mammograms and how this new law could impact others.
