Remembering 9/11, 24 years later

More from this show

The Rescue 4 fire truck out of Queens, New York, is on display in the Hall of Flame Fire Museum. This truck took several heroes to Ground Zero on Sept. 11. All the rescue companies lost personnel that day. Rescue 4 lost its entire crew. After some restoration, the truck is exactly as it would have appeared on September 10th. The names and photos of the crew who lost their lives sits at the front.

Chuck Montgomery who is the Executive Director for the Hall of Flame Museum joined “Arizona Horizon” alongside Ret. Lt. William Hennessy of Battalion 4 NYFD.

In remembrance of 9/11, the museum has several other artifacts on display: a door from another rescue truck, a piece of the Twin Towers, and a memorial for all the first responders who were killed. The truck is a permanent fixture in the museum. This truck means so much to everyone because it is the ONLY truck from New York City on 9/11 that is in its entirety.

“350 trucks were destroyed, this is the only truck that was pulled out,” Montgomery explained.

Other trucks that responded are in pieces or burned. It took them five years to put it back together again. Bill Hennessy will join the interview he is a retired NY firefighter. On September 11th, he was a firefighter in Ladder Company 16 during the rescue and recovery effort at Ground Zero. He is now an automotive technology teacher at North Canyon High School in Phoenix.

“I just want everyone to just take a moment and think about the sacrifice of everybody that day,” Hennessy said. “They rushed in, they didn’t ask anybody what political party they were from, what gender they are, what religion they’re into. They just ran a hundred miles per hour into the danger.”
