Phoenix Waste; SRP Snowpack; Distinguished Innovation Fellowship

More from this show

On this episode of “Arizona Horizon,” Lorizelda Stoeller, assistant director at the Phoenix Public Works Department, discussed a proposal to increase solid waste fee by nearly 50%. Officials say staffing costs have gone up by 32%, vehicles by 52% and maintenance by 40% since 2020.

Also, Enrique Vivoni, director of the Center for Hydrologic Innovations at Arizona State University, discussed findings from a new airborne snow survey over northeastern Arizona. The study offered water managers an unusually clear view of how quickly the season changed.

Finally, Professor Ehsan Zaffar, executive director of the Difference Engine at ASU, discussed the newly launched Distinguished Innovation Fellows program. It is designed for older adults who hope to continue their education and solve real-world issues after retirement. Fellows will work with and mentor Difference Engine students to combat inequality.
