On this episode of Keeping It Civil, host Henry Thompson joins in conversation with Patrick Griffin, a professor of history at University of Notre Dame. Griffin’s work focuses on the intersection of colonial American and early modern Irish and British history. His work and writings explore revolution and rebellion, movement and migration, and colonization and violence in Ireland, Britain, and America.

Patrick’s 2023 book, The Age of Atlantic Revolution – The Fall and Rise of a Connected World is the topic of this episode, and Henry and Patrick discuss why America was an exception, not only in becoming a nation-state, but also a democracy, in the turbulent 18th and 19th century Atlantic world.
