‘Wolf Hall’ on Masterpiece

Thursday, August 1

Get ready for a gripping historical drama that speaks to the modern audience: “Wolf Hall!” This must-watch series brings to life the captivating story of Thomas Cromwell and is also winner of the 2016 Peabody Award and Golden Globe for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

Watch as Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies,” “Twelfth Night”) masterfully portrays Cromwell, a blacksmith’s son who overcomes personal tragedy and navigates the treacherous court of King Henry VIII with cunning and skill. Dive into a world where “man is wolf to man” and witness history unfold in a way you’ve never seen before.

Damian Lewis (“Homeland”) stars as King Henry VIII, haunted by his brother’s premature death and obsessed with protecting the Tudor dynasty by securing his succession with a male heir. The cast also includes Claire Foy (“The Queen,” “Little Dorrit”) as the future queen Anne Boleyn.

Adapted from Hilary Mantel’s best-selling, Booker Prize-winning novels “Wolf Hall” and its sequel, “Bring Up the Bodies,” this series follows the complex machinations and backroom dealings of accomplished power broker, Cromwell. Witness his journey as he serves king and country while dealing with deadly political intrigue, Henry VIII’s tempestuous relationship with Anne Boleyn and the religious upheavals of the Protestant Reformation.
