Election Assistance Commission Firings, Global Change Research Program, Banner Research

In this episode of “Arizona Horizon,” we sat down with Bill Gates, ASU Mechanics of Democracy Laboratory Executive Director, to discuss President Donald Trump’s decision to remove the Election Assistance Commission’s remaining members. The sudden removals follow a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision to expand executive authority over independent boards.

We also heard from Dave White, ASU’s Global Institute of Sustainability and Innovation Director, to learn about the White House bringing back the U.S. Global Change Research Program. Matthew Wielicki, a former University of Alabama geochemist and self-described “professor in exile,” will lead the federal body.

Finally, Dr. Corey Casper, Banner Research Senior Vice President and Chief Research Officer, explained how Banner Health improves immediate patient outcomes while laying the groundwork for future cures.
