Primary debates scheduled for April 2 and 4 with additional dates to be announced

Arizona PBS, a community service of Arizona State University, today announced plans to host, broadcast and livestream candidate debates as part of the station’s ongoing “AZ Votes 2024” initiative. On Tuesday, April 2, the station will hold a primary debate for Democratic candidates running in the First Congressional District; and, on Thursday, April 4, the station will hold a primary debate for Republicans running in the Arizona Corporation Commission race.

Broadcast on the station’s primary channel, 8.1, at 5 p.m., both hour-long debates will be moderated by “Arizona Horizon” Host and Managing Editor Ted Simons. Arizona PBS’ digital audience will also be able to access livestreams of both debates on the @AZPBSNow YouTube channel, @ArizonaPBS Facebook page, and at azpbs.org/azvotes24.

“With another important election season upon us, we’re proud to connect voters across Arizona with opportunities to hear directly from candidates,” said Arizona PBS General Manager Scott Woelfel. “This is an example of the many ways public media serves its communities.”

Beyond these first two primary debates, Arizona PBS plans to announce additional debates in the weeks and months to come. All of this is part of the station’s “AZ Votes 2024” initiative, a multi-platform effort aimed at keeping Arizona citizens informed throughout the ongoing election cycle.
