Arizona mom and daughter write book to empower children

More from this show

An Arizona mother-daughter duo co-wrote “Beauty With A Birthmark,” a children’s book seeking to teach kids empathy, understanding and acceptance.

The book is based on daughter Jessica A. Alexander’s experience growing up with a large birthmark covering most of her face, and the difficulties she faced accepting it, realizing her birthmark makes her beautiful.

Jessica and her mom, Erica Maxwell, recently traveled to South Africa to share their story and book.

The book not only talks about birthmarks but also about moles, freckles, and scars that make each person unique. The goal was to help young readers accept who they are and realize that they’re beautiful just the way they are.
