ADOT shares freeway and construction updates

More from this show

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) joined Arizona Horizon to provide Arizonians with updates on freeway delays and closures as well as information on new construction and paving projects.

Greg Byres, ADOT’s State Engineer and Deputy Director for Transportation joined us to provide more information on these ADOT updates.

“Somewhere beginning of 2025,” Byres said when asked when this project will finally come to an end. “We’re in the process of getting our connector distributor roads opened up.”

Connector distributors are parallel roadways that follow the interstate but they take care of local traffic instead of the inter-mainland traffic that is on I-10. What that will do is condense congestion on the main and allow traffic to flow much more freely.

In addition to the Broadway Curve, the 202 is currently being widened and there will be nighttime closures starting next weekend.

“The 202 which runs from Price all the way to Val Vista, we’re taking and widening it. There will be an extra lane in each direction… so it’s just now kicking off…not this coming weekend but next weekend maybe the first closures that we’re going to see. These are nighttime closures…,” said Byres.

The 101 is also being widened and adding a single lane in addition to the other projects.

“The 101 which is all the way from Princess to Shea so we’re widening it with a single lane and each direction as well. We’re doing a lot of interchange improvements on this section of road,” said Byres.

The Broadway Curve is estimated to cost nearly $1 billion.
