Undecided Arizona voters could make or break the 2024 election
Oct. 2
According to experts, undecided voters could decide the 2024 election for former President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris.
Paul Bentz, Senior Vice President of Research and Strategy at HighGround, Inc., joined “Arizona Horizon” to examine the undecided voters for this election, the latest presidential polls and Hispanic voters’ thoughts about the candidates in Arizona.
According to an article by “Newsweek,” Harris currently holds a 34-point lead over Trump with Hispanic voters in Arizona.
“They probably had someone in mind,” Bentz said. “But with the negativity of the cycle and the attacks that we see on a regular basis, what we generally see is someone goes from picking someone to not sure if they really want to choose them.”
Bentz explained negative ads don’t bring numbers up for candidates.
“What it does is it casts doubt in their mind,” Bentz said. “You have to give them a reason to vote for you. Not simply against your opponent.”
According to Bentz, Republicans do better when voter turnout is down in Arizona because of the negative ad runs, which could be part of the strategy. However, with candidates opposing each other, it may be hard to believe that some are undecided.
“This is an unprecedented election,” Bentz said. “You had Biden drop out, and then Harris replaced him, and Harris is still a little bit of an unknown. I think people would like to know a little bit more about her.”
Although Bentz said the debate between Senator JD Vance and Governor Tim Walz would not swing voters one way or the other, the “tenderness” of the debate is what voters want to see.
“Independent and unaffiliated voters are going to be the key to this upcoming election,” Bentz said. “Because one of the things that characterizes them is that they choose not to be of a party, so they can actually pick and choose. You look at the presidential election, you could have a voter that votes for Trump, and then goes and votes for Gallego.”
