Orpheus Male Chorus performs on ‘Arizona Horizon’

More from this show

For nearly 100 years, the Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix has provided musical entertainment in the Valley. The chorus has performed worldwide and has the mission of providing high-quality performances.

Members of the choir joined “Arizona Horizon” to perform a few songs. Director Brook Carter Larson and Mitra Khazai, the new executive director, told us more about the non-profit.

“We are a group of singers that come together on Tuesday night with a broad variety of backgrounds and experiences,” Larson said. “…it’s about the music, it’s about the singers, and it’s about our audience.”

Larson emphasized the variety of music they tend to perform including acapella, sacred, secular, accompanied, old, and new music as well.

“It is just such a community of people that really love each other and care for each other,” Khazai said, “…yes they’re singers, but Orpheus is a place that they call home.”

Director Larson emphasized how important the community and brotherhood is within the choir. They make each member feel important and welcomed into their growing family.

“We grew in size, we grew in number, we grew in musicianship, our audience grew…and then something happened, magical kind of,” Larson said. “…where this brotherhood, this camaraderie, this family that happened.”
