The 75th Anniversary of the start of the Korean War

More from this show

This year, 2025, marks the 75th anniversary of the beginning of a war that claimed the lives of an estimated 36,574 American soldiers, with over 92,000 wounded and 8,000 missing.

Susan Kee, a war historian and writer, joined “Arizona Horizon” to talk about her advocacy for Veterans of the Korean War and how she educates the public about how to honor and remember those in the “Forgotten War.”

Kee helped produce a new documentary series on FOX Nation called “Final Journey: Korea.” She is also currently writing a book intended solely to honor Korean War Veterans. She intends to ensure younger Koreans today know that they should never forget America’s sacrifice to help South Korea become the economic marvel that it is now.

“I think very little people know what it was about. All they know is that North and South Korea are very divided and have become very different as a result of the war. North Korea being a very closed, communist regime where people do not have any freedoms whatsoever. And South Korea developing into the flourishing economy, they’re now 10th largest economy in the world and a flourishing democratic government,” Kee said.

The work that Kee does is very personal to her. She immigrated to the U.S. from South Korea at 9 years old. After living in the U.S., she has expressed a sense of gratitude for the country that saved her parents during the Korean War.

She shared what it is like getting to meet some of the veterans that fought in the Korean War.

“I’m kind of in awe when I meet them. You know it’s humbling because 17-18 year old boys, they went off to a place they didn’t even know. And to have the courage to die for someone else’s freedom is beyond anything I can ever understand, that kind of greatness,” Kee said.
