Online version of Wall of Faces memorial

More from this show

The virtual Wall of Faces memorial features a page dedicated to honoring and remembering every person whose name is inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. In an effort to further preserve the legacy of those who sacrificed all in Vietnam, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) is committed to finding a photo to go with each of the more than 58,000 names on The Wall.

Sharon Johnson, a volunteer with the Wall of Faces project, joined us to discuss.

The Wall of Faces allows family and friends to share memories, post pictures and connect with each other. Originally, there was an effort underway to build an education center near the wall displaying a photograph of each person.

But two years ago, the building of a center in D.C. became too expensive, therefore the online version became a reality. Now, volunteers like Johnson continue to locate better photos and post them on the website.

Additionally, there is a traveling “Wall That Heals” which displays locals’ photos when on the road. Of the 58,281 named on The Wall, thousands are deemed as needing a better photo.
