Representative Yassamin Ansari demands impeachment of DHS Secretary

More from this show

In recent headlines, Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari (D) has spoken out against for-profit immigration detention centers and called for ending them altogether. As the Arizona Democratic congressional representative of District 3, she has also demanded the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Representative Ansari pointed to growing fear and uncertainty about Border Patrol agents spreading nationwide and said communities feel “terrorized.”

Since July 2025, Representative Ansari has been announced as the Chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Lowering Costs Taskforce. She hosted the Taskforce’s first shadow hearing to address lowering housing costs.

Representative Ansari joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss immigration issues and efforts to lower housing costs.

“Well, what we witnessed in Minnesota on Saturday…was the murder and execution of a 37-year-old named Alex Pretti at the hands of the federal government,” Representative Ansari said, “…it’s devastating…equally appalling is the administration’s immediate reaction that was filled with lies and propaganda.”

Representative Ansari emphasized that she believes that the current form of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) can not exist and should be reformed.

“…during this administration has hired tens of thousands of individuals within weeks, without any training,” Representative Ansari said, “…and their mission is to harm people of all backgrounds. Do we need immigration enforcement? Yes. Do we need border security? Absolutely. That’s not what ICE is.”

Representative Ansari will be introducing multiple bills in the coming weeks, including one that will eliminate the $170 billion that the DHS and ICE were given. The next bill is centered around medical conditions in ICE detention centers, ensuring that everyone is getting proper care.

“I think that more and more Americans, regardless of political party, are waking up, and understanding the harm that is being caused by ICE after this weekend,” Representative Ansari explained, “…Kristi Noem referred to Alex Pretti as an ‘assassin,’ because he was armed.”

The National Rifle Association put out a statement that demonstrated their concern with a law-abiding gun owner being captured and represented in that manner, even when there was no evidence that he would cause harm.

“I think Saturday was a turning point for this country, hopefully for the better, hopefully the Trump administration recognizes they’ve gone too far,” Representative Ansari said, “…and they get ICE out of Minnesota and start to deescalate the situation.”
