Youth support President Trump despite GOP concerns

President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to take Greenland by force, and some GOP lawmakers say they won’t stand for that. However, even with waning support from GOP lawmakers, many young people still have overwhelming support for President Trump.

Chuck Coughlin, President and CEO of HighGround Inc., joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss the support for President Trump one year into his presidency.

“…you have some swing state Republicans that are expressing grievances,” Coughlin said, “…you have some Congressmen who have talked in grievance manners previously, who are now doubling down again. But you’re not seeing a lot of movements.”

Coughlin explained that an issue occurring is the deep polarization of the electorate, saying that 80% of the House members get elected outright in the primary and don’t face the general election.

“They’re pushed into these polar positions, and they’re gonna hold onto these positions pretty tightly,” Coughlin said.

Another issue, Coughlin explained, is that Democratic leaders are caught in an “action & reaction mode,” with few able to take charge.

“Is there anybody in the Democratic community that is advocating today for a immigration reform measure,” Coughlin said, “…cause that would be leading, that would be talking about where do we want to go fro here…we need something in the electorate to aspire to…and we’re not seeing that from the Democrats, you’re just seeing grievance politics.”

When discussing the possibility of the United States acquiring Greenland, Coughlin described President Trump as being a bully and having no desire to recruit allies to his side. He echoed a statement that Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, stated about there being a rupture between the allied countries.

“…does it affect the sticker price of a car, does affect my grocery prices, does it affect gasoline prices, does it affect my utility bills, does it affect my health care bills,” Coughlin said, “…I mean these are the kind of things that are bread and butter issues that Americans pay attention to.”
