Gerard Baker | Media, Trust, and Political Polarization in America

More from this show

In this episode, Henry Thomson speaks with Gerard Baker, a British right-wing columnist at the Wall Street Journal and host of Wall Street Journal podcast, Free Expression. Before his time as Wall Street Journal columnist, Baker’s career included involvement with the BBC, The Financial Times, and The Times, and  a five year period of being the Editor-in-Chief at the Wall Street Journal.

Gerard Baker is also author of “American Breakdown: Why We No Longer Trust Our Leaders and Institutions and How We Can Rebuild Confidence,” a book that examines the erosion of Americans’ trust in their political, business and cultural leaders, and offers solutions for a better future.

Henry and Gerard discuss why American journalism is no longer trusted and how the American media covered the 2024 presidential election.  Gerard evaluates how he thinks American journalism can be improved to help fix America’s current crisis of political polarization and lack of trust.
