Eight, Arizona PBS presents Mr. Selfridge

More from pressroom

Mr. Selfridge is set in a time in which English ladies were used to getting their dresses from dressmakers and beauty products were unspoken of in public, only associated with prostitutes and actresses. This all changes when the main character, Harry Gordon Selfridge, invents a shopping experience that is a cross between a theater and fantasy fulfillment.

Fancy window displays, cosmetics counters, merchandise you can touch, and other marketing breakthroughs had to start somewhere, and they all came from Mr. Selfridge, who combined guile, taste, boldness, the poise of a swindler, and the seductive charm of a Casanova – qualities that spelled success but also trouble.

Eight continues to be viewers’ destination for Sunday night dramas with yet another Masterpiece Classic hit, Mr. Selfridge.
