Hiking Arizona with Pets: Four-legged Trail Buddies
Nov. 21
In this episode, we travel to the Grand Canyon and Prescott to hike with some furry friends. Along the way, we learn about the many ways we can keep our pets safe on the trails. Plus, we highlight one of the ways we can protect our dogs from rattlesnakes on Arizona hiking trails.
First, Jayarr heads north of Flagstaff to our state’s most famous landmark, the Grand Canyon. He hikes the Grand Canyon Rim Trail, which is a great trail for your furry friends to tag along. The trail offers amazing views of the inner canyon and has many access points to start your hike.
For an easy walk with little incline and lots of shade, the Rim Trail is perfect for two-legged and four-legged visitors!
Although the trails are great for dogs, they can sometimes come with unwanted guests, such as rattlesnakes. Rattlesnake Ready, LLC, trains dogs on how to avoid getting bitten by snakes when out on their hike by introducing them to their scent and sound.
Nestled by Watson Lake, the Prescott Lakeshore Trail is a rocky trail featuring intricate granite formations of the Dells with plenty of lake views and desert landscape. The trail is often visited by various types of wildlife so keep your pets close and on a leash. If you explore carefully around the lake, you might just run into the secret cove!
