Photography Expeditions: A Snapshot of Page’s Hiking Trails

More from this show

In this episode of “Trail Mix’d,” we travel to Page to hike one of the most photographed spots in the state. Then we’re off to explore a lesser-known trail with a hidden garden at the end. Along the way, we learn more about safe photography practices and get a few tips on how to take a great shot.

First, we head to Horseshoe Bend, which is a stunning natural landmark located near Page. It’s one of the most photographed spots in the Southwest and offers breathtaking views of a horseshoe-shaped bend in the Colorado River.

Horseshoe Bend was carved over millions of years by the Colorado River, which eroded the sandstone to create the dramatic shape we see today. Visiting Horseshoe Bend is an unforgettable experience that brings you up close with one of nature’s most inspiring creations.

Although these trails offer one-of-a-kind views, it is important to use caution and abide by the park’s safety measures. By being prepared and vigilant, you can fully enjoy the beauty of nature while minimizing risks to yourself and others.

Next, we travel to the Hanging Gardens Trail. Tucked away in Page, the trail offers a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the desert. Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon area, making it a peaceful escape.

At the end of the trail, you’ll find a hidden garden supported by a spring seeping through the porous sandstone, creating a moist environment. The trail is perfect if you’re seeking a connection with nature, a family-friendly adventure or want a picturesque spot to admire the desert.
