American Veteran

Tuesdays at 8 p.m. and on the PBS Video app

This four-part documentary series traces the veteran experience across the arc of American history and exploring the present-day divide between civilian and veteran communities. From the citizen-soldiers returning from the Revolution to today’s warrior class, it is a deeply moving story, illuminating the veteran experience and drawing civilian viewers into an unfamiliar culture.

USS Indianapolis: The Final Chapter

Monday, Nov. 22 at 9 p.m. and on the PBS Video app

Follow a scientific detective story detailing the discovery of the USS Indianapolis wreck site three and a half miles below the Philippine Sea. The ship’s sinking in the final days of WWII was the largest loss of life in US Naval history, and the harrowing survival story of 316 sailors drifting in failing life preservers is legendary.

Veterans Coming Home

Watch on the PBS Video app.

A team of photographers, writers, and filmmakers – both veteran and civilian – are crisscrossing the country to explore the lives of post-9/11 veterans, the divide between them and their communities, and the stereotypes that veterans and civilians hold about each other. Why does this divide exist? How does it affect communities across the country? And why does it matter?
