Celebrating 50 Years of Broadway’s Best

Join in the grand celebration of Great Performances’ golden anniversary with a dazzling revue showcasing the most iconic Broadway shows spanning from 1973 to 2023. This star-studded musical extravaganza, hosted by the two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster, illuminates the brilliant compositions of legendary maestros like Stephen Schwartz, Kander and Ebb, Fats Waller, Stephen Sondheim, Duke Ellington, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and more. Set against the backdrop of Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, this celebration is directed and choreographed by Tony winner Warren Carlyle, with Patrick Vaccariallo as the music director.

Prepare to witness the evolution of contemporary Broadway through captivating performances. Corbin Bleu sets the stage ablaze with a tap number from Jelly’s Last Jam, while the iconic original cast member Donna McKechnie, alongside Robyn Hurder, pays tribute to the timeless “A Chorus Line.” André De Shields, the original “Wiz,” mesmerizes with a rendition of “So You Wanted To See The Wizard.” Sara Bareilles delivers a soul-stirring rendition of “She Used to Be Mine,” and the incomparable Chita Rivera graces the stage with her signature song “All That Jazz” from Chicago.

The ensemble cast, including luminaries like Shoshana Bean, Raúl Esparza, James Monroe Iglehart, Ledisi, Norm Lewis, Rob McClure, Patina Miller, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Jessie Mueller, Mamie Parris, Solea Pfeiffer, Britton Smith, Jessica Vosk, and Vanessa Williams, further enriches this celebration of the Broadway legacy. Recorded on March 23, 2023, this jubilant concert stands as a testament to the profound resonance of musical theater, captivating audiences across generations.
