Bison scattered throughout a lush Carpathian Mountain hillside

Visit faraway lands in Europe’s New Wild

Find how the natural landscape is changing in Europe and beyond on Europe’s New Wild, starting Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Explore the resurgence of iconic wildlife and natural processes across the continent’s most breathtaking landscapes, from the Arctic Circle to rich river wetlands and from deep forests to rugged mountain peaks.

At destinations like the Carpathian Mountains, some of Europe’s most notable species are thriving. The reintroduction of European bison signals a wildlife comeback, while just beyond the mountains, gray wolves stage an astonishing return.

Elsewhere, the connection between man and wild is being reforged by Sami reindeer herders. In one of the area’s wildest frontiers, the group teams up with modern-day conservationists through blustering ice and snow to repair the bond.
