ASU Climatologist’s new book explores extreme weather

More from this show

Randy Cerveny, a climatologist at ASU, joined Arizona Horizon to talk about his brand new book coming out Feb. 29, entitled “Judging Extreme Weather: Climate Science in Action.”

The book draws from Cerveny’s time working with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and his research to give riders a behind-the-curtains look into how extreme climate and weather are recorded and detailed and the ultimate science behind it all.

The inspiration behind the book is the absence of individuals to record extreme weather worldwide.

“We would look at each individual observation, hot temperature, cold temperature. I get the best of the best meteorologists and climatologists in the world, we get together, and we go over it with a fine tooth comb to get the measurements,” said Cerveny.
