Re-enacted Arizona abortion ban expected to have major political repercussions

On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the Arizona Supreme Court announced in a 4-2 decision that it would re-enact a law from 1864 banning abortions with no exceptions (including for rape and incest) unless the mother’s life is at risk.
The decision has sent shockwaves throughout the political world. The ruling is expected to have ramifications for the upcoming November elections.
Stacy Pearson, Co-founder of Lumen Strategies, said the ruling will likely incentivize people to vote in the upcoming election.
“We still have a Republican registration advantage, but we have a group of voters who are hot. They are angry, and that’s certainty going to impact November,” said Pearson.
“You called it a bomb,” Doug Cole, Chief Operating Officer of HighGround, Inc., said in response to a comment by “Arizona Horizon” host Ted Simons. Cole added, “I would call it a nuclear bomb.”
“This is going to motivate so many people on both sides of this issue. More so, I would say, from the folks that support reproductive rights. This is a wakeup call,” said Cole.
