More from this show

On this episode of Arizona Encore, the power and the beauty of 80 classical musicians all working in harmony. Every spring, musicians from the top orchestras all over the country come together in Scottsdale to play five memorable concerts as a part of Arizona Musicfest.

We’ll hear highlights from the 2022 season, including new music by British composer Anna Clyne and a colossus written in 1888: Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. It’s a story within a story within a musical score. Scheherazade is a clever woman who must outsmart a king with fantastical tales to stay alive. Rimsky-Korsakov gives her narrator’s voice to a solo violin while the rest of the orchestra fills in the drama and excitement of her tales with memorable melodies and sonic flourishes.

Featuring performances by Arizona Musicfest Festival Orchestra; Robert Moody, conductor.
