Jonathan Nez on his run for Arizona’s Congressional District 2

Ted Simons sat down with Jonathan Nez, a Democratic candidate running for Arizona’s Congressional District 2. A former Navajo Nation President, Nez spoke on issues he would like to tackle in the district and how he plans to win over Republican voters.

Arizona has 30,000 more registered Republican voters than registered Democratic voters in the district.

“I was born in the district. I went to school in the district, and I’m still in the district, and I’m willing to help out in every way possible to talk about the issues that are affecting our people in Congressional District 2,” said Nez.

The district is in the northeastern part of the state and is home to Apache, Coconino, Gila, Navajo, and Yavapai counties and parts of Graham, Maricopa, Mohave, and Pinal counties.

According to Nez, one of the main issues in District 2 is the infrastructure to improve the quality of life. “I will hit the ground running, not on January but right after the elections because we do have doors open for us in Washington D.C.” said Nez.

When asked about his opinions on his Republican candidates’ takes on uranium mining being necessary for domestic needs, Nez replied by advocating for funding for the war in Ukraine and that mines cause more harm than good.
