Super Why Camps in Yuma County

June 2, 2025 • The Super Why Reading Camps welcomed children and families throughout June, helping young learners strengthen early literacy skills as they prepared for the transition to kindergarten. The Super Why Reading Camps program concluded with special celebrations on Thursday, June 19, at Great Minds Learning Center, and Friday, June 20, at Cocopah Head Start. Families and students enjoyed activities, recognition of the campers’ achievements and a special appearance from “Super Why” characters, making the events both memorable and inspiring for the young readers.

Hands-on fun at Wilson Primary School

July 11, 2025 • Students got hands-on with creativity and engineering at Wilson Primary School. One young participant demonstrated how to build a booster using a pipe cleaner and a toilet paper roll, then tested it with a big fan. The activity sparked imagination, problem-solving and storytelling as kids explored blowing the house down, superheroes to the rescue and the joy of reading aloud.

Tina Barbaria Herman shares how her child, Hazel, benefited from a Super Why Reading Camp: “For the past three weeks, Hazel has been in a free pre-kindergarten, PBS-sponsored enrichment camp at her school. Not only have they given kids the tools to read and write, every week they were sent home with stacks of books, a huge activity bin and today…a tablet! All three of my children have been raised on PBS KIDS, and the future of public television is at a turning point. Please donate to your local station to keep educational programming like ‘Super Why!’ going for the next generation of learners.”
