Arizona PBS is here to help you connect with your community, be more informed and explore new educational opportunities. Here’s how our team is impacting communities all across the state this summer!
ExploreSAZAEYC Conference in Tucson
December 2, 2023 • Regional outreach coordinator Gloria Osborne spent the day at the Southern Arizona Association for the Education of Young Children Conference (SAZAEYC). With over 300 educators in attendance, Osborne was able to connect with many early childhood educators and promote our educational resources.
Family Math Spatial Sense Workshop
December 8, 2023 • Senior Regional Coordinators Gordon Brown and Gloria Osborne, along with Family, Friend and Neighbor United Way Coordinator Sonia Soto, collaborated to host a Spanish Family Math event at Central Arizona College. The event was a success, with attendees learning about shapes, fun math activities and singing along with Brown’s tunes.

The event was filled with interactive activities designed to make math fun and accessible for families, fostering a love for learning among participants of all ages.
ASU Open Door 2024
February 3, 2024 • ASU Open Door 2024 kicked off with an exciting start as we welcomed characters from PBS KIDS’ “Work It Out Wombats!” This free family event offered parents and children the opportunity to explore the university, work on crafts and hang out with Malik, Zeke and Zadie as well as Clifford the Big Red Dog.
Annual Santa Cruz Young Child Event
February 10, 2024 • The Annual Santa Cruz Young Child Event, part of the month-long Early Childhood Awareness Education Month, saw over 150 children enjoy a day filled with fun, learning and music, including a live DJ and participation from local schools and organizations. From simple, educational activities parents can participate in with their children to learning about available resources, the event was enjoyed by parents and kids alike.
College and Career Fair
February 15, 2024 • The recent College and Career Fair at Paradise Valley High School was both enjoyable and fruitful. Key members from Elevate Ed AZ, including Amir Law, Jessamy Sanchez Beltran, Erica Maxwell, and Hope Gamble, were instrumental in linking attendees to Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Early Childhood Programs within Paradise Valley Unified School District and beyond, reaching into Phoenix Union and Alhambra. Outside of the fair, Erica Maxwell, who co-authored a book empowering children, was featured on our public affairs show “Arizona Horizon”, highlighting her extensive community engagement and outreach.
Not one but two Family Math Events
February 26, 2024 • Two Family Math events for early childhood professionals offered innovative math integration techniques. At the Prescott YMCA, the focus was on “Spatial Sense and Measurements,” where participants learned to use everyday items like paper clips for measurement. Meanwhile at Buena Vista Children’s Services in Cottonwood, the “Patterns” event emphasized incorporating math into all classroom routines. Both sessions provided practical insights, enhancing teaching methods and enriching math understanding in young learners.
