ASU professor unveils new book about Florence Nightingale

Melissa Pritchard, ASU Professor Emeritus of English, has written a brand new book entitled “Flight of the Wild Swan” about the famous nurse and war soldier Florence Nightingale.

Nightingale was known as “The Lady with the Lamp,” a moniker paying homage to the iconic figure she cut while tending to wounded soldiers on the battlefield at night. She was also a social reformer, a scientist and a statistician who introduced the pie chart.

Pritchard will be appearing at 7 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2024, at Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe.
