Arizona faces health insurance hurdles and claim denials

More from this show

Health insurance challenges, including claim denials and non-transparent decision-making, have become a significant issue for many individuals.

Will Humble, Executive Director of the Arizona Public Health Association, joined “Arizona Horizon,” to shed light on the frustrations faced by patients and doctors alike.

These difficulties often stem from complicated policies and a lack of clarity in the health insurance process.

“There’s nothing more frustrating than not knowing who’s making decisions that’s making your life more difficult,” Humble said.

Humble highlights the impact of claim rejections and the stress caused by insurance companies denying necessary treatments. With a focus on Arizona, he offers practical advice, such as filing complaints with the Department of Insurance and advocating for fair treatment.

According to Humble, understanding the historical roots of health insurance, from World War II’s employer-based system to current challenges, is key to addressing these complex issues. This insight helps unravel why the system is so opaque and what can be done to improve it.

“President Truman tried to get something close to a universal health care system in place,” Humble said, “…but the American Medical Association killed it, and it became this employer-based system to get health insurance from then on…basically till this day.”
