ASU Football’s comeback under Coach Kenny Dillingham
Dec. 10, 2024
ASU Football’s turnaround under Coach Kenny Dillingham has been impressive, marked by his passion, enthusiasm, and deep connection to the local community.
Michelle Gardner, ASU Sports Reporter for “The Arizona Republic,” joined us to talk about how this is a story of resilience, leadership, and revitalizing a football program amid adversity. Learn how Coach Dillingham is shaping the future of ASU Football.
“He just oozes passion and enthusiasm,” Gardner said, “…there’s not a fake bone in his body. What you see is what you get.”
Dillingham was previously the Offensive Coordinator at Oregon until he was given the reigns to ASU’s football team in 2022. His first year didn’t start as expected as Arizona State finished with a 3-9 record.
However, this year has been a complete turnaround. Starting out the season with an 11-2 record, ASU’s best record since 1996, made them eligible for the Rose Bowl. Dillingham helped pave the way for a Big-12 Championship win against Iowa State, giving them a Bye Week in the College Football Playoffs.
“He’s a guy that resonates with the whole area,” Gardner said, “…he’s from here, he’s got invested interest in making this program great again…he’s gotten the public behind this program again.”
Despite facing challenges like probation and scholarship reductions, Dillingham has managed to inspire the team and bring back the public’s support. With a strong understanding of high school football in Arizona, he has been able to rebuild the program with an eye on the future.
