Breaking down the first 100 days of President Trump

From tariffs to immigration crackdowns to the firing of thousands of federal employees, President Donald Trump’s approval rating is lower than any president in the last 70 years.

Wes Gullett, partner at Nexus Strategies, and Jason Barraza, Partner at Veridus, LLC joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss.

Barraza believes the first 100 days “has been one of the most consequential changes in American policy” that we have seen for decades. Gullett said, “People chose for this chaos, so this is what we got.”

Regarding the number of executive orders that have been issued in the first 100 days, Barraza said, “When you have someone leading one of those parts [branches] that thinks they are the end all and the decision maker regarding every little thing in America, well, that’s the way business is done.”

Gullett explained some of the executive orders are in violation of U.S. federal laws, which has created some conflict in the courts.

“The thing that I find unusual is one, he didn’t give us the back story. The back story with Europe, you can see how those might work out, but Canada, Canada is like our brother; they’re like our younger brother, and we are treating them like they are enemies,” Gullett said.

The tariffs have created a separation between the U.S. and its allies, Barraza said. He also said that is not what Americans want.

Regarding the financial situation of current America, Barraza said President Trump has put a lot of waiting time on his table, and low-income Americans do not have time to wait for the economy to get better.

“The uncertainty has caused this slowdown, and that’s why we’ve had negative growth,” Gullett said.

They both agreed America is not in a better place after President Trump’s 100 days.
