Former Phoenix journalist shares insights on new Parkinson’s podcast

More from this show

For 10 years, former journalist and news executive Lisa Volenec kept a secret. She was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s in 2014, choosing not to tell anyone but family and a few close friends. In 2024, with longtime friend and music legend Stevie Nicks by her side, Volenec shared her story at the annual Michael J. Fox Foundation Gala.

Volenec started a podcast earlier this year titled “This is Parkinson’s” where she shares insight, advice and interviews people with Parkinson’s as well as doctors, trainers and caregivers.

Volenec spent more than a decade as a news reporter in Phoenix and then as a sales person at ABC 15 before moving to Omaha, Nebraska, where she became a news director and executive. Volenec joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss her podcast, “This is Parkinson’s.”
