In April 1944, Jewish prisoners Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler miraculously escaped from the Auschwitz concentration camp and fled through Nazi-occupied Poland to find refuge in Žilina, Slovakia, where they connected with the Jewish Underground.
