Savor the Southwest

KAET/Phoenix brought the popular cuisine of the American Southwest to public television audiences with “Savor the Southwest,” a 13-part cooking series hosted by Barbara Fenzl, a Phoenix-based Southwest cooking teacher, food writer and cookbook author.

Seven prominent Arizona chefs appeared in “Savor the Southwest”: Robert McGrath, The Roaring Fork, Scottsdale; Chuck Wiley, The Boulders, Carefree; Lenard Rubin, The Scottsdale Princess Resort; Donna Nordin, Cafe Terra Cotta, Scottsdale and Tucson; Janos Wilder, Janos, Tucson; Roxsand Suarez Scocos, Roxsand, Phoenix; and Vincent Guerithault, Vincent’s on Camelback, Phoenix. Rounding out the all-star culinary lineup was Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, Border Grill, Santa Monica, Calif.; Robert Del Grande, Cafe Annie and Rio Ranch Texas, Houston; Loretta Barrett Oden, Corn Dance Cafe, Santa Fe, N.M.; Stephan Pyles, Star Canyon, Dallas; Jay McCarthy, Cazwellas, Telluride, Colo.; and John Sedlar, chef/author of “Modern Southwest Cuisine.”

“Savor the Southwest” was produced by KAET/Phoenix and A La Carte Communications, whose credits include “In Julia’s Kitchen with Master Chefs,” “Baking with Julia” and “Julia Child & Jacques Pepin, Cooking in Concert.” A companion cookbook, published by Bay Books, and a DVD of Barbara Fenzl’s cooking tips and techniques are available for purchase. “Savor the Southwest” is distributed nationally by NETA – National Educational Telecommunications Association.
