A kid holding up his red slime

How to make your own slime

The slime obsession has been taking over lately, and rather than fight it, I decided to join it and make it into a fun learning experience.

My 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son were beyond thrilled that I lifted our “slime ban” at home for this interactive activity.

If you’re looking for a hands-on project that will teach kids measuring and science skills, this is it! They had the greatest time and took the lead. I just read them the instructions out loud.

Ingredients you will need:

  • School glue
  • Slime activator
  • Food coloring

Steps:

1. Pour half a cup of school glue into a container. We used tupperware with a lid so we could store it after it was made.

2. Add 6 teaspoons of slime activator. We ordered ours online, but you can also find some at your local crafts store.

3. Mix well. This is such a fun part for kids. You can use a mixing utensil or allow them to have at it with their hands! If the consistency is too thick, you can add a little more activator to thin it out.

4. Drop in 3 to 5 drops of your favorite food coloring. You can add more or less depending on your desired color shade.

5. Knead it together, and enjoy!

Try out this fun activity yourself, then let us know how it went. Share your slime creations with us on Arizona PBS KIDS on Facebook.
