Otro Cafe: Innovative American and Latin flavors
Feb. 25
Otro Cafe serves up dishes for all times of the day and has an inclusive menu to accommodate dietary restrictions so everyone can enjoy.
Doug Robson, chef and owner, said Otro Cafe has hints of his experience leaving in Mexico City and San Antonio, Texas where guests can find a variety of delicious meals. The open grill gives their dishes a hint of a smokey undertone and unique flavor.
For guests wanting to enjoy breakfast, Robson said the eggs and barbacoa or the flapjacks are their most popular item. He said they typically go through 10 gallons of flapjacks on a single weekend day.
For dinner, Robson said they are best known for their fun and creative salads alongside their carna asada burrito.
He said he wanted the menu to appeal to everyone, not matter where they are from. He said they pay close attention to the ingredients they use and having options for those with dietary restrictions.
“When people do come into my restaurant, it’s not about a sense of perfection and dining experience, but more like a grounded neighborhood place,” Robson said. “When they leave here, if we’ve given them a good experience, and they’re nourished and feel like they got a good meal, then I’m happy with that.”
Guest Jessica Wenger-McPhaul has celiac disease limitations so she often has to settle on dishes. At Otro Cafe, she gets to have her pick.
She said her go-to meal is the tacos chinos, which is a pork taco wrapped in a rice paper to make it spring roll style. It also comes with soy sauce and a spicy red sauce alongside huge leaves of lettuce to wrap it in for an extra crunch.
For guests on the go or looking for a quieter space, Wenger-McPhaul said the restaurant also has a coffee shop that serves the whole menu.
Wenger-McPhaul’s pro tip: Order the tacos chinos and wrap it in the lettuce topped with the different sauces
