Taco Guild: A mix of history and flavor

More from this show

What was once an old church is now a delicious Mexican restaurant packed not only with flavor but history.

Owner of Taco Guild, Dominick Scarpinato, said the church, now beloved restaurant, was originally built in 1893, making it the second oldest building in Phoenix. A piece of its original stain glass still stands.

“Like everything else with Taco Guild, it’s all about community, and its got a story,” Scarpinato said. “We really do love it that way.”

Along with a diverse menu of dishes, he said they like to take their own spin on classic cocktails. With over 300 agave spirits to choose from, there is something for everyone.

Scarpinato said the restaurant has a unique ambiance making it perfect for an intimate date night or a casual mid-day lunch.

Out of all the Mexican restaurants in Arizona, guest Angela McWilliams said the architecture and dishes caught her eye the most.

McWilliams said she usually starts her visit with a cocktail and their fresh guacamole. For her entree, McWilliams chooses the cherry chipotle skirt steak taco alongside the crispy cauliflower. Both were tender and had just the right amount of flavoring, she said.

Since no meal is complete without dessert, McWilliams enjoys the fresh and soft churros stuffed with caramel.

McWilliam’s pro-tip: Parking can get tough. Come early because it is worth it.
