Arizona PBS Community Events Fall 2024
Arizona PBS is here to help you connect with your community, be more informed and explore new educational opportunities. We had so many fun events over the fall, we just had to share them with you.
ExploreFirst Things First Day
Sep 7, 2024 • Families came together at the Yuma Children’s Museum to celebrate First Things First Day with a day full of fun, learning and community connection. The event featured free admission, interactive activities for young children and valuable early childhood resources from local organizations highlighting the importance of early learning and development in Arizona.

Program for Infant Toddler Care provided in English and Spanish
Sep 27, 2024 • Caregivers in Yuma County participated in a bilingual Community of Practice series led by Yanira Martinez, Program Manager at Arizona PBS. Designed for family childcare providers and center-based teachers, the sessions emphasized social-emotional development, responsive caregiving, and early identity formation. Attendees gained valuable tools to support the growth and learning of children from birth to age 3.

Jamming on the Job
Oct 5, 2024 • Our Education Outreach Team brought the lively and educational podcast “Jamming on the Job” to the 2024 Arizona State Fair! Designed for kids ages 4 to 8 and their families, this multi-generational experience introduced young listeners to a variety of career paths through fun storytelling and catchy tunes. Each episode of “Jamming on the Job” follows a journey where kids meet adults in different professions, learning not only about the jobs but also the essential skills they require. Arizona PBS played a key role in the event by bringing Kindergarten to 2nd grade students from Wilson Primary School and the Guadalupe Boys and Girls Club, creating a memorable and inspiring day of exploration and learning.

Early childhood educators learn essential strategies for language and literacy instruction
Oct 11, 2024 • In other Yuma County Community of Practice sessions, early childhood educators learned essential strategies for language and literacy instruction in the classroom. Led by Yanira Martinez, a Program Manager at Arizona PBS, attendees at the Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) sessions discussed the role of assessment in early childhood education, how phonology is related to oral language development, the developmental stages of oral language and more.

Lyla Game night
Nov 22, 2024 • A great group of families joined us at Guadalupe Boys and Girls Club for Lyla Game Night, a game promoting family engagement and computational thinking concepts. Families were introduced to the new PBS KIDS program “Lyla in the Loop” with a short episode and had fun learning about creative ways of thinking that help solve problems and complete tasks in more organized ways.
