Maricopa County Medical Society reimagined

More from this show

The Maricopa County Medical Society (MCMS) is a local nonprofit in Arizona that’s been impacting the state’s healthcare landscape for over 130 years.

From physician care, healthcare advocacy, and policies to patient quality care, community outreach, and more, they are the oldest county medical association in Arizona and fourth largest nationally.

Desire’e Hardge, CEO and Executive Director of MCMS, and Dr. Jane Lyons, MCMS board president, joined us to discuss patient care, the state of healthcare in Arizona, and how MCMS plans to shake up their role in society.

MCMS is taking on the challenge of sustaining the decrease in primary care physicians in Arizona through recruitment. MCMS is said to provide physicians with leadership and training opportunities in the Grand Canyon State.

“We understand that there is a profound burden when it comes to having to get accreditation or having to continue on with their specialty, and we want to try and lessen that burden,” said Hardge.

To make that happen MCMS’s goal is to provide free SAMI courses to physicians. The purpose of a Safer Airway Management in Intensive Care (SAMI) course is to improve patient safety in an ICU.
