Aliyah Chavez shares what she loves about her heritage

More from this show

Award winning journalist Aliyah Chavez is the anchor and managing editor of ICT News. Chavez started working at Indian Country Today, the nation’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to Indigenous news, in 2019.

Chavez and ICT News spoke exclusively with Vice President Kamala Harris in July 2023 during a trip to the Gila River Indian Community.

In December 2021, Chavez was chosen by the Women’s Media Center to receive its first Exceptional Journalism Awards, which honors exceptional reporting by diverse female journalists. An awards ceremony was televised live when she received the recognition.

Chavez was also chosen to speak on behalf of ICT in a briefing at the White House in 2021. She posed a question via video conference, which was a unique chance for reporters outside the beltway to be involved and a first for a Native American reporter to pose a question about Indian Country.

Before going into television, Chavez worked as a reporter and producer for ICT’s digital division. She has two degrees from Stanford University.
