J. White: Holiday Classics on Sax

More from this show

J. White is a talented saxophonist based in Arizona, known for his smooth, soulful sound and dynamic performances.

White began playing the saxophone at 10 years old, encouraged by his mother who enrolled him in his school’s band. His passion intensified when he was 15 after leading his first solo in the jazz band.

A rising star in the jazz and contemporary music scene, White’s warm, melodic tones and heartfelt interpretations set the perfect festive mood with his renditions of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “O, Holy Night.”

White has performed alongside Warren Hill, Peter White and Dav Hollister, some of the most influential people in the industry.

White’s musical inspirations include Kirk Whalum and Grover Washington, both known for their soulful and spiritual playing styles. Being from Detroit means Motown music and artists, such as Stevie Wonder, have a big influence on him.

White has been invited to perform at jazz festivals, such as the Arizona Jazz Festival, Las Vegas Jazz Festival, Jazz at the Creek and the San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival.

White was awarded a music scholarship to attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music and performed with the Marching Band and Wind Symphony. During his time in college, he began to tour across Arkansas and played in Memphis, Tennessee, performing alongside a local show band.

White also shared more insights on his musical journey, influences and passion for connecting with listeners through his saxophone.

His talent and charisma make him a standout artist in Arizona’s music landscape.
