The Earthshot Report is the definitive review of the progress we have made in protecting and restoring our planet in 2024. Introduced by HRH Prince William and hosted by Hannah Waddingham, the report takes a deep dive into previous Earthshot finalist stories, takes a look at the global picture and shows how we are progressing towards a sustainable future.
Meet the nominees
Protect and Restore Nature
Winner – Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative has saved the critically endangered Saiga Antelope from extinction. The mission is one of the world’s largest conservation projects that aims at protecting and restoring Kazakhstan’s Golden Steppe.
Finalist – The Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance (ASHA) brought many Indigenous nations together to protect 86 million acres of forests for communities and to bring awareness to the regenerative bioeconomy.
Finalist – NatureMetrics simplifies the collection of environmental DNA (eDNA) to help organizations make informed choices regarding biodiverse ecosystems.
Clean Our Air
Winner – The Green Africa Youth Association (GAYO) aims to address behavioral change to aid communities. The organization helps communities with cleaning up waste, creating jobs and building infrastructure to support circular waste management across Africa.
Finalist – d.light aides in bringing clean and affordable power to rural African communities. They set a goal to reach one billion people by 2030.
Finalist – MYCL grows a low-carbon, sustainable leather alternative that uses palm oil waste. It also encourages farmers to not burn their crop waste.
Revive Our Oceans
Winner – The High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People (HAC) is engaging with governments around the world to reach the goal of protecting 30% of our land and oceans by 2030.
Finalist – Through Seaweed farming, Coast 4C combines investment in coastal agriculture with conservation through regenerative farming. Coast 4C has seen benefits to areas that align with Earthshot’s mission, which include communities, conservation, commerce and climate.
Finalist – MiAlgae works to end reliance on wild-caught fish as a primary source of Omega-3. They use a patented fermentation process to grow Omega-3-rich algae, a sustainable alternative.
Build a Waste-free World
Winner – Keep IT Cool (KIC) aims to help small farmers and fishers have sustainable refrigeration and smart distribution solutions, which help extend the shelf life of their produce, reduce spoilage and provide stable incomes.
Finalist – Ferment’Up is a product by Green Spot Technologies. It uses fermentation to transform commercial food waste into nutritious alternative ingredients.
Finalist – Natural Fiber Welding’s natural-based circular materials replace plastic for a wide range of items. It also reduces carbon emissions and supports regenerative farmers.
Fix Our Climate
Winner – Advanced Thermovoltaic Systems (ATS) created a simple, safe and reliable way to create electricity from the transformation of industrial waste heat. It has the potential to save gigatonnes of CO2.
Finalist – Build up Nepal is dedicated to house building with low-carbon and cost-effective alternatives to clay-fired bricks. The organization supports entrepreneurs and helps communities find safe, affordable and resilient homes.
Finalist – Equatic is contributing to the future of carbon removal. Their carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technology uses the ocean to remove harmful CO2, creating a safe solution to the climate crisis.
