Ask This Old House tapes segments in the Valley

This spring, “Ask This Old House” came to tape several segments in the Phoenix area.

The show’s season premiere on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 9 a.m. will feature Scottsdale residents Steve and Martina Krueger’s water-softening problem, which was resolved by plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey.

“I’ve been watching it for years and years,” Steve said. “When my wife and I were just starting out, we bought a couple of different houses and did some remodeling, and I learned a lot by watching that show. I found it valuable from a learning perspective, but I also find it entertaining.”

So when Steve realized his house had an ongoing issue, he decided to “Ask This Old House.”

“Six or seven months later, I got an email from one of the producers that said, ‘Hey, we’re coming to Phoenix,” Steve said. “Next thing you know, Rich Trethewey showed up in my driveway.”

Other local stories to be featured this season include Jenn Nawada helping a Glendale homeowner create a desert-appropriate front yard, and Ross Trethewey helping a Phoenix homeowner install a new solar technology that can extract drinking water from thin air.

“Ask This Old House” airs as part of “The ‘This Old House’ Hour” every Saturday at 9 a.m. on Arizona PBS. You can also find it on Life at 8:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Sundays and Fridays.
