Supreme Court to hear arguments restricting birthright citizenship

The U.S. Supreme Court said it will hear arguments next month over President Donald Trump’s efforts to restrict birthright citizenship. Birthright citizenship, as outlined by the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, automatically confers citizenship to people born on U.S. soil regardless of their parents’ citizenship status.
President Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office this year which seeks to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to noncitizen parents and undocumented immigrants.
The Court said it would hear arguments on the case on May 15, 2025, with a decision likely by late June or early July.
