Baby Kay’s Cajun Kitchen: 35 years of amazing Cajun recipes

More from this show

Starting its 35th year in April 2024, Baby Kay’s Cajun Kitchen is an iconic Cajun restaurant serving up New Orleans favorites like gumbo, crawfish étouffée, and fried fish.

Started by Kay Romero, the restaurant first opened in Scottsdale. Coming from New Orleans, Romero couldn’t find good Cajun food so she gathered her own recipes and opened the shop. Twin sisters, Heidi and Heather Woodstead purchased the restaurant from Kay and re-opened it in Mesa. They still use her recipes, and the same customers from thirty years ago still enjoy dining there.

“Check, Please! Arizona” guest Brent Kleinman recommends starting with the appetizer combo at Baby Kay’s. Owner Heather Woodstead recommends the homemade Cajun gumbo, a flavorful introduction to the rich Louisiana-inspired menu for first-time visitors. Guest Brittany Hudson opted for the sweet potato pie, adding a sweet note to the experience.

The ambiance is as lively as the flavors, with live music filling the air on both weekdays and weekends.

Baby Kay’s Cajun Kitchen remains a cherished spot where the essence of Cajun culture is celebrated with each homemade dish.
