June 4, 2024 • At the White Mountain Apache Tribe (WMAT) RPC Council’s end-of-year meeting, we celebrated 7 of 12 WMAT First Things First (FTF) Scholars and their families for their dedication to earning CDAs, Associate’s, and Bachelor’s degrees during the 2023-24 academic year. This annual event, which resumed last year after a pandemic hiatus, allowed the scholars and council members to connect in person and recognize the scholars’ hard work and accomplishments. Networking with early childhood leaders at teacher’s conference
June 5, 2024 • Mike Gaffney, Regional Coordinator at Arizona PBS, along with Gordon Brown, Senior Regional Coordinator, and Dawn Craft, Educational Consultant, participated in the Arizona Department of Education Teacher’s Institute and Leading Change Conference. They networked with early childhood leaders, professionals and non-profits interested in collaborating to support early childhood educators in northeastern Arizona and across the state.

Cocopah Super Why Reading Camp finale
June 21, 2024 • Yanira Martinez, Program Manager at Arizona PBS, led a joyful celebration to mark the conclusion of the Super Why Reading Camp in Cocopah, aimed at supporting children’s transition to kindergarten. The event featured a slideshow of memorable moments, food and activities for the children and their families. Yanira ensured the camp’s final day was filled with excitement and pride as families came together to celebrate the young learners’ achievements. This event wrapped up a week of fun and educational experiences designed to foster a love for reading and prepare children for the next big step in their academic journeys.



A summer of learning at Wilson Primary School
June 28, 2024 • The final Super Why Reading Camp of summer 2024 wrapped up at Wilson Primary School, capping off a successful summer program with 168 children participating across all nine camps. Each camper received 23 books, resulting in an impressive 3,864 children’s books distributed throughout the summer. In addition to the books, campers took home back-to-school activity boxes and PBS KIDS Play Pad Tablets. The camp fostered a love of reading and prepared children for the upcoming school year, leaving a lasting impact on families and young learners.

Arizona PBS partners with Alaska Public Media to empower rural Alaskan families
June 30, 2024 • Misty Standeford, Program Manager at Arizona PBS, collaborated with Alaska Public Media to deliver valuable educational resources to rural Alaskan communities. Through Training of the Trainer workshops and interactive sessions like Ready Jet Go and Learn and Grow Together, the partnership provided families with hands-on learning opportunities. This initiative aimed to support early childhood education in Alaska’s most remote areas, fostering a stronger connection between families and educational content.


Annual Child Abuse Prevention Conference
July 23, 2024 • Kimberly Flack, Senior Director of Education and Community Impact, Lisa Ann Sepulveda, Assistant Director for Education and Community Impact, and Amy Pico, Assistant Director, represented Arizona PBS at the Child Abuse Prevention Conference in Glendale, Arizona. As exhibitors, they engaged with over 900 attendees, showcasing the Arizona Early Childhood Workforce Registry and other key programs such as Triple P and Bright by Text. The team was thrilled to share valuable resources and information, furthering the mission to support and enhance early childhood education and community impact.

Prescott Valley Back-to-School Health and Wellness Event
July 24, 2024 • Families lined up around the Prescott Valley Findlay Toyota Center for the highly anticipated Back-to-School Backpack event. Arizona PBS, in partnership with PNC Grow Up Great and Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, distributed 1,500 items to local families, including educational resources and wellness materials. The event brought the community together, ensuring children were prepared and supported for the upcoming school year with valuable health and educational resources.

Tucson Convention Center Badges and Backpacks Event
August 1, 2024 • Arizona PBS’s Educational Outreach Team, along with Healthy Smile Learning from Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, participated in the Badges and Backpacks event at the Tucson Convention Center. The enthusiastic crowd quickly scooped up all Arizona PBS educational materials and Delta Dental resources within the first two hours! The event energized the community and provided essential tools to help children start the school year with confidence and healthy habits.
