Tito Muñoz will complete his tenth and final season with The Phoenix Symphony. He leaves behind a long legacy of enhancing Arizona’s Phoenix Symphony and its many education programs. Muñoz will not leave the Symphony completely but rather focus on working as an artistic partner.

Looking back on his ten years, Muñoz recalls joining The Phoenix Symphony because of its educational opportunities and programs and the vast outreach to the community. He finds integrating new work into every show is important in allowing composers to show off their art.

After his time with The Phoenix Symphony, Muñoz recalled even in the hardest times, like the 2020 pandemic, he saw how tight-knit the community is and how ready they are to embrace new technology.

Muñoz spoke on introducing new music The Phoenix Symphony and said allowing composers to showcase their art is a great way to allow people to demonstrate their gifts.

“Almost every concert we have new work, and now we have this REVERB New Music festival that we do once a year, and I’ll continue doing that with the orchestra,” Muñoz said.

In the last 10 years, there have been a few great performances that Muñoz is very fond of, he said.

“We did a concert version of West Side Story which is something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, a full production of it,” Muñoz said.

Starting REVERB was a proud moment for him, as he stated that new music can be challenging for audiences who expect traditional repertoire. However, making an engaging platform with multidisciplinary aspects has been great, according to Muñoz.
