President Biden announced he will not seek re-election in 2024

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, President Joe Biden announced he will not seek re-election for the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election.

Biden said he would like to focus on finishing off his term strong for the U.S. Currently, President Biden is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the candidate in the upcoming election.

The decision was made after Democratic Party leaders told President Biden to step down after he had a weak showing at the debate against former President Donald Trump.

There are also many concerns about his health and what tasks he can accomplish as President.

People all across the U.S. have questions about what’s next for the Democratic Party and the upcoming election.

Chuck Coughlin, President and CEO of HighGround, Inc, Karl Gentles, Partner at Gentles PR Agency, and Wes Gullett, Partner at Nexus Strategy Group, joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss the latest developments.

“I think 80% of Americans didn’t want to see this race, so I think there’s a great deal of relief on one side that we have a choice,” said Coughlin. “I think most of America was struggling with the belief that the incumbent President was capable of carrying this match forward and capable of carrying the duties forward if he were fortunate enough. The incapacity that he was faced with the problem from the last debate of not even being able to make an argument about Trump’s problems because it was always about Biden, I think that’s all gone now.”

Gullett believes Kamala Harris would be a strong candidate which could be a challenge for the Republican Party.

“I think that the Vice President is going to be very strong. She is the worst case scenario I think for the Republican Party. We saw the Republican Convention, the convention focused on Joe Biden, and now it switched, so they lost a huge opportunity on national television to make the case. Kamala Harris is a different person,” said Gullett.

The Democratic Party is looking for a new opportunity to attract young people to the party and older voters.

“I think this is a renewed opportunity for her to attract new people to the party, not only is she going to prosecute the case against him, but she’s also going to lay out and prosecute the case for her for the next four years,” said Gentles.
